Ethan Iverson Plays James P. Johnson & John Coltrane

Submitted by the Event Organizer

Pianist Ethan Iverson, “a master of melody” (Downbeat), returns with a unique program featuring music by James P. Johnson and John Coltrane. It’s uncommon for a modern jazz pianist to play music by Johnson, composer of the Jazz Age anthem “The Charleston” and stride piano classics like “Carolina Shout,” and for a solo pianist to tackle iconic themes from Coltrane, known for his fierce style and interactive rhythm section. Iverson has “traversed the boundaries of jazz tradition while leaving an indelible mark on its evolution.” (Hot House).
