On July 20, Hayes Valley Farm will transform into an outdoor theater to show the acclaimed documentary Botany of Desire, a sensuous and eye-opening exploration into the human relationship with plants, based on the best-selling book by food journalist Michael Pollan.
Sponsored by KQED, this free event will celebrate plant diversity as well as the volunteers and community members who have transformed the former Central Freeway ramp site into a growing 2.2-acre urban community farm over the last five months.
The farm’s gates will open at 7 p.m for guests to mingle, get first pick of fresh baked goods, and enjoy live bluegrass music from the Jugtown Pirates. The film will begin at sundown. Guests are encouraged to dress warm and bring their own picnic blankets, lawn chairs and cushions to sit on. The event is free and open to all.
