Event Details

In honor of Black History Month, KQED along with UC Berkeley’s African American Studies Department and History of Art Undergraduate Association present “An Afternoon with Basquiat” at UC Berkeley Art Museum and Pacific Film Archive.

Free, but an RSVP is required.

The day begins with a viewing of the museum‘s collection of works by Jean-Michel Basquiat, Layla Ali, Sanford Biggers, Lyle Ashton Harris, Margo Humphrey, Rashid Johnson, Martin Puryear, Elisabeth Sunday, and Fred Wilson followed by a screening of portions of the Basquiat biopic The Radiant Child.

A panel discussion and Q&A after the screening will include guerrilla poster artist Robbie Conal, author of Reading Basquiat, Jordana Moore Saggese, and UC Berkeley professors Leigh Raiford (moderator, African American Studies) and Jessica Maxwell (panelist, History of Art).

Please note, the BAM/PFA Durant Ave. entrance, where the Basquiat events will take place, is free and open to the public, however admission to the rest of the museum will still require a paid ticket ($10).
