Event Details

Freespace Pop-Up Community Center

Freespace is a pop-up community center focused on hacking the civic experience. It is hosted in a 14,000 sqft warehouse in S0Ma, San Francisco, envisioned and implemented entirely by you.

Freespace was originally just a one month project, but it was extended to two months thanks to successful Indiegogo campaign. They’re now open periodically (check their schedule). They host a wide array of events and projects like classes, music, art, silent discos, yoga, a free bikeshare, community engagement and field trips, and more than a few silly costumes.

[freespace] is hosting its first art auction and it all happens without money. There will be twenty 14″x18″ framed photographs taken by a local photographer for auction. All are invited.

How does this money-less auction work?
Guests will “bid” with a proposed action. An action that they promise to perform in exchange for the art and its frame. The “bids” will be displayed and guests will then vote on the one they value most. “Bids” with the most votes takes home a photo.

The frames were the property of an altruistic man whose story is the inspiration for this event. If you come, you will learn more.

Please bring your own marker and flashlight.
