Come get inspired and informed and ready to plant your Bernal Heights vegetable garden, whether in containers or in your shady backyard. This workshop will cover strategies for sourcing materials, seeding and planting, pest control, and more. Whether you’re limited to strawberries on a windowsill, or hoping to live large off your urban homestead, this class will help make your food-growing dreams a reality.
Speaker Antonio Roman-Alcala will begin studying the cultural prospects for urban sustainability at UC Berkeley, attempting to forge a connection between academic and activist approaches to social change, while saving some time to plant and tend to his own garden (and hopefully do some seed saving!).

Tuesday, June 22 – 6:00PM
FREEThis is the second totally free gardening workshop led by Antonio Roman-Alcala. This class will focus on the essential process of coaxing a plant from a seed. We may think that it’s a straightforward process (nature does it all the time, right?), but for growing vegetables and fruits, there is a lot to consider when starting seeds. Learn the foundations for effective germination of tomatoes, squash, beans, greens, lettuce, and more, as well as some basics on maintaining your babies as they grow.
