Game of Shrooms is an international art scavenger hunt founded by Richmond-based artist Daniel “Attaboy” Seifert”. It’s kind of like Pokemon Go or an Easter Egg Hunt, but for mushroom art.

This annual art hunt took place on August 15th led hundreds of artists across the world to create and hide original artwork for collectors (and the unassuming) to find.

Game of Shrooms is like an Easter Egg Hunt for art and celebrates the spirit of unexpected surprises. It’s a once a year world wide Art N Seek holiday scavenger hunt where one of a kind art works are made hid for hunters to find, and to keep. It’s an underground holiday free of commerce, religion, or stupid gift cards. Any one can participate and anyone can become an art collector. It’s about creation, a bit of mischief, and surprises. It’s like Valentine’s Day and Easter for people you don’t know. In fact, Many people do not know they are playing until they find their first Shroom

Artists and gatherers from Hong Kong, Berlin, Japan, the UK, India, Russia, Switzerland, the US, and many more participated in the world-wide event, creating a world-wide non-religious, no cost, political-free interactive “art show” of making and sharing.

Originally scheduled on July 13th, the event was rescheduled to Aug 15th because of the CoronaVirus. Check out all #gameofshrooms post via Instagram

So, that happened! Just want to thank everyone who participated in this year’s #gameofshrooms international #shroomdop thank you to the artists, the hunters, the co-pilots and the often bewildered public who put up with the art event. What a fantastic day. When I started making and planting shrooms in 2016 I needed to change the mental narrative in my head, to regain a sense of control, instead of responding to (mostly) bad news, to remind people and myself that surprises are out there , however small, so don’t stop looking for them. I could go on and on, but hopefully you had a great experience making and finding art (not sure which is more fun), especially during a global pandemic! We don’t need an official state or religious holiday to be 10% more happy or more giving or for being seriously stupid. There are big problems in this world and definitely things to fight for right now, but it was nice to recharge the batteries for a second. People often complain about the “Art world” and while an often exclusionary insular world does exist, but so does another one that you need only to create to be part of. we mustn’t forget that you don’t need permission to make or collect art that speaks to you, and to not stop creating or appreciating art and artists. You may have just participated in the world’s largest outdoor art show! Yesterday was a whirlwind around here, and from what looks like it, it was a full day and night of micro rogue sandy clauses meets Easter bunny chaos. To folks in unpopulated areas or places new to Game of Shrooms: thank you for being pioneers and taking a chance and getting others to make and hunt. Hopefully next time more people will play in your area. Speaking of which … Are you in for 2021? Let me know below. And I’ll announce a date in a week or so, (once I’ve communicated with the Shroom Orb deity I just made up) for the perfect date. All the Best, Atta
