Event Details

The Heat Will Kill Everything is a powerful new one-person play that stands at the intersection of theater and fiction, weaving a deeply human story within a landscape scarred by climate change. At its heart is Leeden, a middle-aged Black professor of Black Studies whose life is shattered when his daughter, Asha, vanishes during a catastrophic climate event. As the police officially search for Asha, Leeden embarks on a solitary harrowing journey, navigating a world where the environment’s relentless fury mirrors his own internal tumult.

As he for Asha, Leeden is forced to confront his past and the toxic patriarchal forces that have shaped—and damaged—everyone he holds dear. Through visceral storytelling and poignant reflection, the play grapples with the intersections of race, masculinity, and the brutal reality of a world pushed to the brink.

The Heat Will Kill Everything challenges audiences to examine the ways in which personal and environmental crises intertwine, leaving no one untouched. In the tradition of A Year of Magical Thinking, it is a story of survival, redemption, and the fight to reclaim humanity amid disaster.
