Huge 1,000 Person Anti-Trump “Human Banner” at Ocean Beach (SF)

On Satuday, April 5, 2025 Travis and I (this is Brad typing) are putting on a human banner in support of the powerhouse groups Indivisible and 50501.

The mood and the momentum in the country have definitely shifted — HANDS OFF rallies are now scheduled at more than 1,000 locations around the country!

Our particular message is going to be “HANDS OFF DEMOCRACY!”

The exact location at Ocean Beach has been narrowed down to either Stairwell #4 or #5 or #6 (let’s say Stairwell 5 for convenience sake” — all stairwells are grouped within 100 yards of each other. If you get yourself to any of them, the event should be impossible to miss. (Portable toilets right nearby at Stairwell 7.)

The HANDS OFF DEMOCRACY message inside our circle will be spelled out with blue tarps. The out ring (maybe two outer rings?) will be occupied by participants. We will do the Wave. We will flip the flag again.

Travis and I will be at the beach from 7am onward, getting ready. We could definitely use a few early rising able-bodied volunteers. If you show up, we’ll do our best to put you to work, as we get ready for all participants to arrive by 10 a.m. Photography will begin as soon as we’ve solidified into formation. The event will conclude by 11am.

As always, we are still pulling things together, still threading the needle here — past experience makes us confident of getting good imagery once again, and again we feel we have a very real shot at our imagery going viral.

POSSIBLE CHANGES? Please do check back here during next two days including on the morning of the event — there is almost always something that comes up.

We’re starting this earlier than usual, so that it will finish in time (by 11am) to allow particpants plenty of time to get to the HANDS OFF rally beginning at 1:00 pm at the SF Civic Center downtown, if they want to — and many have told us they do want to.

Please sign up. This really helps us know how many people to prepare for, how to structure the whole image. For HANDS OFF, we are preparing for approx 1,000 people, and will adjust things according to number of registrations. We need 230 to form one outer ring (one person deep — a more solid ring than we formed in FLIP CONGRESS), and as of 9:30pm on Thursday, April 3, we have 240 registered. And it seems like we’re getting 5-10 ten registrations per hour now — we’ve got the crowd we need. But there’s plenty of room for more.
