Are you having an existential crisis? If you want to know more about who you are, then find out who your ancestors were! Let the experts teach you how to trace and compile your family history at the California Genealogical Society and Library, Northern California’s premier genealogy society library. This free, hour-and-a-half class led by volunteer Mary Beth Frederick will help you use their extensive resources and online databases.
Cheap class also offered: If you already know you’re into this and want something more in depth, then you should sign up for their 8-week course, every Tuesday from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. starting September 28. Cost is only $20 for the whole course. Click on this link [http://www.californiaancestors.org/images/stories/fall_2010_beg_ser.pdf ] for more info and registration flyer.
Some of the things you’ll learn in this 90 minute class:
- how to create a pedigree chart which resources are available online
- how to interpret a census form
- information about future workshops at CGS
- and so much more!
Your homework: Bring with you as much information about an ancestor’s family as you can dig up. Confirm your visit through the link below and you will receive a confirmation email that has directions to the library and a parking permit. You may bring a bag lunch or visit a nearby restaurant. And don’t be surprised if all the regulars are, well, old. You’re just geeky enough to make this cool.
