A special screening of the Kabuki classic, “Sukeroku: The Flower of Edo,” one of Kabuki’s great entertainments. The play tells the story of the handsome and dashing Sukeroku and his lover, Agemaki. Starring some of the greatest Kabuki actors of our time, including Ichikawa Danjuro XII, Onoe Kikugoro V, Ichikawa Sadanji, and Nakamura Jakuemon. Newcomers are welcome and no previous knowledge is necessary. In Japanese with English subtitles, so it’s easy to follow. If you are curious about why Kabuki’s unique combination of drama, music, dance, and spectacle continues to entertain millions every year, this is a rare chance to see one of the classics in a recent production.
