Join historian Tracey Panek for a retrospective talk on the 161-year history of Levi Strauss & Co., a San Francisco native and originator of the blue jean.
Free, but an RSVP is required.RSVPs are now sold out.Long before today’s start-ups, Levi Strauss built a small company that still stands tall in the heart of San Francisco. One of the original companies of the Bay Area region, Levi Strauss & Co. pioneered many firsts: the first blue jean, the first jean for women, the first multi-national apparel company to establish industry worker standards, and a first in speaking out on many social issues.
The year 2015 marks the 125th anniversary of the expiration of the Levi Strauss & Co. patent—one of the oldest continuously used trademarks in the industry – which opened the doors to the denim industry as we know it today.
This insightful presentation will explore the impact LS&Co made on the apparel industry and will feature historic garment gems from the company’s archives.
Tracey Panek manages the day-to-day workings of the LS&Co. archives, answering historical questions, assisting designers, brand managers, executives and other employees whose work requires historical materials. Prior to joining LS&Co., Tracey spent 14 years as historian and archivist at AAA Northern California, Nevada & Utah.
