Now in its fourth season, Live! at OPC highlights the Bay Area’s contribution to the timeless legacy of Jazz, a “rare and valuable national American treasure” as designated by the 100th Congress of the United States in House Congressional Ruling 57. The lineup boasts a diverse range of local and national jazz legends and some of the Bay Area’s most exciting emerging artists.
The season kicks off on April 18 with acclaimed New York-based bassist Curtis Lundy featuring Oakland native son Craig Handy on tenor saxophone. On May 16, multi-instrumentalist Roger Glenn takes the stage with his Latin jazz ensemble. Ayo Brame, rising tenor saxophone giant, follows on June 20th. Oakland violin icon Sandra Poindexter performs standards and original music on July 18. August 15th features tenor saxophonist Howard Wiley performing with a trio in the spirit of Branford Marsalis’ “Trio Jeepy.” On September 19, the unsung trumpeter Christopher Clarke presents an evening of original music from his debut album “The Swooper.” Jazz and gospel vocalist Valerie Troutt performs with her trio on October 17. The innovative and captivating vocalist Azure McCall closes the 2024 season on November 21.
The Live! at OPC Jazz series offers something for every jazz lover, from local heroes to nationally recognized icons to the genre’s bright new talents. Proceeds support the Oakland Public Conservatory of Music’s youth programs. Make a difference today and help nurture the next generation of musicians!
