Friday evening, October 9, the Oakland Ballet Company will transform a downtown Oakland gathering space into an outdoor stage filled with vibrant costumes, extraordinary dance, and the joyful spirit of Mexico’s Día de los Muertos celebration.

“Luna at the Lot,” presented in partnership with Northlake, will give Oakland residents and local media a special sneak peek at Luna Mexicana, one of the Bay Area’s most elaborate and inclusive Day of the Dead performing arts celebrations. The event previews Oakland Ballet’s highly anticipated 2026 production, which will feature newly choreographed works by Esteban Hernández, adding a fresh artistic dimension to a beloved Oakland tradition.

Blending classical ballet with Mexican cultural traditions, Luna Mexicana celebrates life, family, remembrance, and the enduring connections between generations. The full production brings together exuberant dance, joyful music, spectacular costumes, and the rich visual traditions of Día de los Muertos.
