Ashia and Underdogs:
Show Description: As a frustrated storyteller whose scripts kept getting second-round with Sundance Labs, I realized I was a bit like an architect walking around with blueprints, and decided to metaphorically build a treehouse in my backyard. When I ran across a story about prisoners and dogs in my neighboring town, I figured this was my documentary and began taking a CCSF class. Little did I realize that this story would inspire the drafting of legislation in Oregon, allow me to write the soundtrack, and shine a light on the power of clear, kind and consistent communication (positive reinforcement).
Artist Biography: Raised on three continents in six countries with travel to over 20 before the age of seventeen, Ashia’s unusual and tumultuous childhood shaped her strong drive to become a storyteller as creativity and the ability to understand diverse people became important coping skills. Ashia honed these skills by majoring in psychology and music as an undergrad, and earning her master’s degree from Harvard’s Graduate School of Education.
