Join Professor Mohsen Janatpour for a fascinating talk on the vital role that mental imagery plays in creating art, making mathematical discoveries and developing scientific theory.
What do DaVinci, Michelangelo, Poincaré and Einstein have in common? They all possessed incredibly powerful imaginations!
Mental imagery plays a vital role in creating art, is indispensable to mathematical discovery, and is crucial in developing scientific theory. It is a tool that connects our inner universe to the outer world.
How do we perceive, imagine, create, and form mental representations? Art and science depend on these functions of the mind for their existence. In my 35th presentation I will explore this topic and draw on material from my recently published textbook on the subject.
After the presentation, please join us for refreshments in the Theatre lobby. We will complete the evening by setting up telescopes for stargazing outside in front of the Theatre, courtesy of the San Mateo County Astronomical Society and CSM’s Astronomy department.
