578 Waller Street | 578 Waller St., San Francisco, CA

Artist Blake Sherlock, who began his mosaic career in San Francisco in the mid-1990s, will be displaying his latest Mosaic Light paintings at a pop-up show at 578 Waller Street on Saturday, November 4 from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m.

Sherlock’s current work combines painting on glass with mosaics, resulting in compositions that change as the light passes through them. This is a rare chance to meet the artist

Two recent examples of his work can be seen at 574 and 578 Waller Street. Residents at those locations commissioned Sherlock to create custom mosaic light paintings for their front door windows. The windows appear to be lit from within and add a lovely, warm touch to the entrance that can be seen as you walk by.

About Blake Sherlock
There are many other examples of Sherlock’s mosaic art in Duboce Park. He led the community mosaic tile workshop in 2006 at the Annual Friends of Duboce Park Tag Sale to create the decorative border that rings the Scott Street Labyrinth. He also created a mosaic Labyrinth Table and mosaic No Skateboarding and Handicap signs at the Labyrinth site. He did the mosaic pillar featuring Harvey Milk near the Harvey Milk Recreation Center for the Arts in 2015.

This is a wonderful opportunity to meet the artist, see his latest work, and discuss the possibility of having a custom piece designed for your home. Sherlock was raised in Idaho, went to school at Brown and the Rhode Island School of Design, and currently lives in Antigua, Guatemala, where he offers mosaic classes.
