For National Trails Day 2010 there’s two ways to participate in San Francisco’s Presidio:
Volunteer on the Trail: Volunteers will work along the Ecology Trail and Bay Area Ridge Trail. Activities include trail maintenance, habitat restoration, forest stewardship, and landscape maintenance. Lunch provided. Registration required: (415) 561-5333 or volunteer@presidio.gov – 9 am to Noon (8:30 check-in, Noon lunch)
Guided Hikes
1:30 to 3:30 pm
Both walks Meet at the Presidio Officers’ Club, 50 Moraga Avenue
Watershed & Forest: Walk through the Presidio’s largest watershed, Tennessee Hollow, to Inspiration Point. Then follow the Bay Area Ridge Trail through the historic forest past Andy Goldsworthy’s Spire to the newest scenic overlook at the National Cemetery. 2 miles moderate.
OR
Park Trail: Explore the Presidio’s historic forest on the newly opened Park Trail. Along the way, learn about a new temporary art exhibition, Presidio Habitats, celebrating the park’s great outdoors overlook at the National Cemetery. 2 miles moderate.
