“NightLife” at California Academy of Sciences | Thursdays

Enjoy music, creatures, and cocktails as you set out with friends on a journey to the stars and the depths of the sea. Featuring a new theme each week, after-hours access to all exhibits, and special programming, NightLife is your ticket to the nocturnal side of the Academy.

At NightLife, smart revelers receive special discounted evening admission to the California Academy of Sciences on Thursday evenings with unique special events each week.

  • Thursdays from 6-10 pm / 21+ with valid ID
  • Advanced tickets for Nightlife range from $12 to $25 and are subject to dynamic pricing and may change daily – read more about “Plan-Ahead Pricing” – Updated May 2019
  • Planetarium passes additional $3 for the 7:30, 8:30, and 9:30 shows and can be purchased online. (The 6:30 pm planetarium show is always free and seats are available on a first-come, first-served basis.)
  • Last entry is 9pm.
  • Last entry to the rainforest dome is 7:45pm

Let your inspiration run wild as you DIY throughout the museum with the help of the Bay Area maker community.

  • Make out like a bandit and pick up sweet gifts for friends (or treat yourself) at a pop-up maker shop with vendors from SF Bazaar.
  • Then, meet artists from SF Maker Faire as they display their handcrafted works in African Hall.
  • Who says you need a degree to build a computer? Join the Computer & Technology Resource Center and help turn recycled e-waste into usable computers for underserved communities.
  • Then, meet a super computer maker bot by Other Machine Co.. Stanford Postdocs will show off replacement parts designed for the human heart, and The Crucible will host a metal-working workshop.
  • Join Green Art Workshop to create your very own eco-animal.
  • Want to see what happens when science and art nerds unite? View an exhibit of projects by grad students from both the Academy and the California College of the Arts in display in the East Pavilion.
  • In the planetarium, space out on art as you catch a special presentation of Making Art in the Dome at 7:30 and 8:30 pm.
  • At the Project Lab, check out intricate animal nests built by nature’s makers.
  • Music by DJ Omar (Popscene)
