January 16 2014 lineup:
Joe Nguyen – Subtle but sharp, laid-back yet engaging, Joe Nguyen is the smart slacker beloved by audiences for his easygoing delivery and well-written jokes. Raised in the state of Georgia by immigrants of Vietnamese and Jewish descent, Joe was destined to become a stand-up comedian. His unique perspective and likeable stage presence have made him a favorite at clubs, colleges, niche shows and private events throughout the country. Joe is a regular at the Punch Line in San Francisco and Sacramento, Cobb’s Comedy Club in SF and Rooster T. Feathers in Sunnyvale. He won the 2009 Russian River Comedy Competition and has been featured on KOFY TV in the Bay Area. Joe tours nationally with the Mahatma Moses Comedy Tour and was featured in the Kung Pao Kosher Comedy show.
Ray Molina – Ray Molina started comedy in Northern California and has performed at every comedy club in the area, he has also performed at small intimate venues and private events, colleges and festivals. He also likes glow in the dark mushrooms and likes to share their existence with people who don’t know about them.
Phil Johnson – Phil Johnson, who has appeared at the Sundance Film Festival and the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, uses comedy and music to dissect that dilemma in both his own life and others. Phil Johnson, like everyone else, sometimes gets it and sometimes wonders what the heck people are thinking. On stage, his playful humor and likeable, endearing manner allow him to shake things up without antagonizing the audience.
Alfonso Portela – Sacramento native, Alfonso Portela, is a nationally recognized barista. Alfonso is also a professional percussionist. Most relevant to this short bio, however, he’s a talented comedian. Much like his taste for playing all genres of music, his comedy too encompasses a variety of styles from short clever jokes to elaborate and animated vignettes. Winner of “Best New Comedian” at the Sacramento Comedy Festival, Alfonso has an inclusive style of comedy that appeals to everyone. Original, creative, and imaginative are the hallmarks of his material. He has become a staple at comedy shows in his area and has also performed at many of Northern California’s premier comedy clubs. He has a gap in his teeth. Don’t let it weird you out. It looks good.
Stefani Silverman – Stefani Silverman is a San Francisco based comic dedicated to finding meaning in life through humor. A former attorney, she uses her hard earned critical thinking skills to talk about such complex topics as food, sex and things she sees on Muni. Mostly observational, increasingly self revelatory, Stefani’s comedy will get you laughing and keep you thinking. She has performed at Cobb’s with Comedians at Law and on San Francisco’s famous Comedy Day and is a regular at the Sunday New Talent Show case at the SF Punchline.
Stephen Furey – Stephen Furey is a Sacramento, Ca based comic. Some people seem to enjoy his stand up.Considered by most to be relatively clean, he enjoys straddling the line between wholesome and filthy while attempting to portray his views on the mundane. He co hosts the Belligerently Uninformed Podcast, recorded weekly at The Sacramento Comedy Spot. He co produces two shows as well, under the titles C.W.A & Belligerently Uninformed Presents. He also wrote all this from his phone.
