Event Details

Sunday July 26th marks the 25th anniversary of the signing of the Americans with Disabilities Act, but many people don’t know that the disabilities rights movement started right here in the Bay Area. Patient No More tells the incredible story of the longest occupation of a federal building in US history. On April 5, 1977, more than 100 people began a twenty-six day occupation of the Federal Building in SF to insist on getting civil rights. Protesters emerged victorious with the signing of Section 504, a predecessor to the ADA, and sparked a national campaign for disability rights. This exhibit has been three years in the making, and we are so excited to share this awesome story! There will be a short public program from 2-2:30, followed by a public reception.

Patient No More is an innovative, accessible exhibition that includes ASL, brail, and audio description for all visitors.

PS Since the protest was in 1977, we invite everyone to show up in their best 70s attire!
