Paul Madonna’s first solo show in five years comes to The Dryansky Gallery in San Francisco in the form of an exhibition and book launch of Close Enough for the Angels, an illustrated novel that looks to Raymond Chandler and Haruki Murakami as inspirations
Madonna is best known for his series All Over Coffee—painstakingly rendered pen and ink drawings paired with enigmatic conversations and quips—which graced the San Francisco Chronicle, resulted in two books with City Lights, and recently came to a close after 12 years and a total of 726 strips.
Close Enough for the Angels—an exhibition of original drawings and limited edition book launch—opens May 19 from 7-9pm and runs through July 14 at The Dryansky Gallery, 2120 Union Street in San Francisco.
The exhibition will be comprised of:
- A curated selection of originals drawn from the 100 images in the book
- Mounted text passages designed to create an experience of the book coming alive on the walls of the gallery
- Fifty limited edition hand-bound books produced by Madonna himself
