San Jose “Music in the Park” Free Concert: BoDeans

The BoDeans have forged a signature sound based on heartfelt lyrics, passionate harmonics and ringing guitars. Their most successful album to date was Go Slow Down, which ultimately yielded the Party of Five theme song, “Closer to Free” which reached the billboard Top 10 in 1996 and was one of the most played songs on radio that year.

Openers: Dusty Rhodes and the River Band (rock / folk / country), one of Steve Wozniak’s favorit bands; and The Careless Hearts (indie / country / rock).

The 22nd year of “Music in the Park” brings free Thursday night concerts to downtown San Jose with food vendors, ice cream trucks and a lounge. The 2010 lineup features roots rockers BoDeans, 80s ska new wavers English Beat, a 14-piece Michael Jackson tribute band, reggae singer Pato Banton and more.

• July 1: English Beat (Ska/New Wave). Opener: The Odd Numbers.
• July 8: Tonic (Rock/Pop). Opener: Green River Ordinance.
• July 15: Don Carlos (Reggae). Opener: Zili Misik (tropical/afrobeat/neo-soul).
• July 22: The Gaslight Anthem (Alternative Rock). Opener TBA. Sponsored by
• July 29: Pete Escovedo Orchestra (Latin/Jazz). Opener: Tortilla Soup.
• August 5: Foreverland (14-piece Michael Jackson Tribute Band). Opener: Love Stoned.
• August 12: Eek-A-Mouse (Dancehall Reggae). Opener: The Hold Up.  .
• August 19: Y&T (Classic Rock). Opener: OTR Band.
• August 26: Pato Banton (Reggae). Opener: Whiskey Avengers.
