The 2019 theme of CommUNITY honors the design discipline’s global unity, which will be celebrated at the opening night party on June 20, 2019 when leading San Francisco and acclaimed international designers showcase original artifacts they have produced especially for the event—posters, typeface, product, sculpture, motion graphic or artwork–– a response to the concept of “communicating unity.”

2019 San Francisco Design Week

Chances are you’ve used the classic Helvetica font for all sorts of design projects. What is it about this simple typeface that many designers are obsessed with? In collaboration of Mondaine, The official Swiss Railway watch and clock manufacturer, Zinc Details will be hosting a screening of Helvetica, a documentary that details the history of typography, graphic design and global visual culture. The film is an exploration of urban spaces in major cities and the type that inhabits them, and a fluid discussion with renowned designers about their work, the creative process, and the choices and aesthetics behind their use of type. Helvetica encompasses the worlds of design, advertising, psychology, and communication, and invites us to take a second look at the thousands of words we see every day.

Ava Barbaric of Marlox USA will give you brief introduction about how Mondaine went about translating the iconic Swiss typeface into a watch.

The entire collection of Helvetica watch will be on display during the event and they are available for purchase. When you purchase the watch, you’ll receive a Helvetica book as a gift.
