Shelter-in-Wine: Virtual Intro to Wine Tasting

Join us to learn the basics of Wine Tasting, the Wine List, and Wine and Food pairing tips. Prepare your bottle for a virtual wine tasting! This is a virtual event hosted on Zoom.

How to participate:
-Option A: Access the Facebook Event (https://www.facebook.com/events/165098791412604/) and mark yourself as “going”. The link to access the meeting is in the description of the event.
-Option B: RSVP on Eventbrite (https://www.eventbrite.com/e/103759569666). The link to participate will be sent via email once you secure your free ticket.

What is needed (to be procured before the event starts): Your favorite bottle of wine. Is that simple! Choose a wine that you tried before and made you happy (normally all wines make you happy!), otherwise a wine of which you are particularly curious to know more about! White, Red o Rosè will do. We’ll do the rest.

The Sommelier: Mattia Spedicato, southern Italian born, is the Deputy Restaurant Manager & Sommelier at Geranium Restaurant in Copenhagen, Denmark, a 3 Michelin Stars now ranking number 5 at the 50 Best Restaurants in the World list. Mattia moved to the Highlands of Scotland to refine his skills and ended up in Copenhagen in 2015 where improved his love and passion for the wine world.

What we will cover:
– The sommelier role in a restaurant
– The Wine List
– Wine and Food Matching tips
– Wine books, links and websites to approach the wine world
– Assessment of some of the wine participants chose, trying to define the properties of the wine itself

The event: Shelter-in-Wine is an initiative of the group Pugliesi in California to bring some joy and comfort during quarantine. Playing with the name “Shelter-in-Place”, we created different online classes, each one taught by an expert of the topic. The classes are free and aim to bring people together during a time in which it is hard to share experiences safely. These virtual events are a way to learn new skills, “meet” new people in a safe space and spend some time together while respecting social distancing. The community: Pugliesi in California is a vibrant, inclusive and beautiful community of people from Puglia, a region in the South of Italy, who now live in California. We organize many different events every year that include cultural, artistic, and traditional aspects of our region including music, food, and art. These events aim to make the members of the group feel at home and close to their cultural background while spreading and sharing our culture with people from all over the world.
