For most people, “seasonal change” means a trip to buy a pair of gloves, or an umbrella or a swimsuits. For once, how about marking the Winter Solstice with something far cooler? Like an ancient Pagan ritual.
Join the Reclaiming Collective on the SOLSTICE MORNING to greet the sun in the East Bay hills. We usually do a spiral dance just after dawn. We watch for the coming of dawn, when the Great Mother again gives birth to the Sun, who is bringer of hope.
“This is the stillness behind motion, when time itself stops; the center which is also the circumference of all. We are awake in the night. We turn the Wheel to bring the light. We call the Sun from the womb of night.”
WHAT TO BRING: Wear layers. Bring drums, shakers, tambourines, flutes, tubas, etc. Maybe a thermos of hot beverage? If you have a favorite sun-song, bring lyrics to share.
LOCATION: Gather at the parking lot at Inspiration Point in Tilden Park about 6:40 a.m., to allow about 10 min. to walk or roll to site. At West end of parking area go around gate and up paved road beyond it, marked as Nimitz Way. You’ll see folks on a grassy clearing on your right.
