Advances in biotechnology are enabling everyone to manipulate the genetic material of plants and animals, including humans. Just because you have the capability, does it mean it should be done? What are the advantages, disadvantages, and far-ranging consequences of genetic manipulation? Dr. Barbara-Ann Lewis will discuss the philosophical, ethical, health and environmental issues regarding genetically modified organisms.
The talk will also include an interesting fact about soil to celebrate the current year as the International Year of Soils.
This illustrated lecture is intended to provide the general public with basic scientific information to help understand current controversies regarding each topic. No previous knowledge of science or math is necessary.
