SF’s Yerba Buena Gardens Festival 2025
The 2025 Yerba Buena Gardens Festival hosts a full lineup of free outdoor music, theater, circus, dance, poetry, and children’s programs. The Festival opens on Saturday, May 10, 2025 with La Santa Cecilia to kick off its 25th Anniversary Season.
Timon! – The Musical, An Alfresco Musical Experience transfers Shakespeare’s ancient Athens to contemporary San Francisco, where the cafes are full of bohemians, the city’s falling apart because nobody works, and millionaire arts patron Timon gets hustled by fast-talking artists.
Why a musical? The show needs to be big to fill the outdoor space. Musicals do that. Theatre Rhinoceros has a cast of 18 and a brand new score by the incredible Don Seaver. The plot is basically the same as Shakespeare’s but the dialogue is new. It’s now a musical satire. It’s 80 minutes in length and it moves about the YBG spaces including Jessie Square, the Martin Luther King Jr. Fountain, the park outside the Children’s Creativity Museum, and all the spaces in between. The audience moves with it.
