Event Details

Mickey Huff & Peter Phillips visit City Lights to discuss the year’s most censored stories and celebrating the release of Censored 2011 published by Seven Stories Press.

Mickey Huff, director of Project Censored, is an associate professor of history and social science at Diablo Valley College. He is the associate director of Project Censored, with which he has been involved since 2001. He blogs at www.mythinfo.blogspot.com and www.dailycensored.com.

Peter Phillips, former director of Project Censored, is an associate professor of sociology at Sonoma State University. He is known for his op-ed pieces in the alternative press and independent newspapers nationwide. He is the 2009 recipient of the Dallas Smythe Award, presented by the Union for Democratic Communication.

About Project Censored: Each year, as it has for the past quarter century, Project Censored lists its list of the top twenty-five censored stories—the major new stories that were ignored or under-reported by a mainstream press too busy covering the latest junk food news story. Stories are presented in depth, and the original reporters are given the opportunity to provide updates and comments on how their stories came about.

Additionally, the project commissions articles on the hot-button issues of the year having to do with censorship, alternative media, international news, and other relevant topics.
