Join in celebrating the creation of the Mai Tai. Named as the ‘official drink’ of the City of Oakland, the Mai Tai was born here in the Bay Area 75 years ago, and Trader Vic’s is proudly commemorating this classic tiki cocktail on the Real Mai Tai Day, August 31st.
Inspired by 17-year old rum from Jamaica, Victor “The Trader” Bergeron fashioned the drink for a few friends visiting from Tahiti. Upon first sip, they exclaimed “Mai Tai—Roa Aé!” which means “Out of this world—the best!” resulting in the beverage’s namesake.
Featuring the Tikiyaki Orchestra, DJ Speakeasy Ray, Mai Tais, Trader Vic’s Food Stations, Tiki Mug & Luau Fashion Vendors, Lei Making, Photo Booths, Rum Tasting and did we say MAI TAIS?!
Plus a special toast at 3:00 pm.
