Jidi and Bassee live in an idyllic garden in peace, if not for the fact that the alleged owner of the garden comes to beat them every day. Jewish-American writer David travels to Israel to better understand the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, and soon is mired in the cycles of violence and compassion that haunt everyday life.
Israeli-American writer Ken Kaissar weaves these two disparate stories and styles to dig into the parallel and often contradictory narratives of Palestinian and Israeli histories.
The reading will be followed by a talkback with Ken Kaissar and Evren Odcikin
This free staged reading is part of Golden Thread Productions’s New Threads Staged Reading Series. This year’s series introduces four vital new voices to the Bay Area.
They invite you to laugh, cry, and think alongside these beautiful stories from and about the Middle East. Each play is teeming with unexpected humor, surprising characters, and important questions about the world people live in today.
Free but an RSVP is required.
