The hippies don’t want to fade away just yet. West Fest is a free concert festival in Golden Gate Park to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Woodstock on October 25, 2009. The line-up is full of various members from classic rock bands, including many who played at the original Woodstock including Country Joe, Denny Laine (Wings, Moody Blues), Ray Manzarek (The Doors), John York (The Byrds) and more. In honor of Jimi Hendrix, 3,000 guitar players will attempt to break the World’s Record for the Largest Guitar Ensemble playing “Purple Haze” — all at the same time. Rolling Stone journalist Ben Fong-Torres will be a guest speaker.
