Wild Oakland Walks
Wild Oakland leads free, fun and educational guided environmental walks for busy urbanites.
They are a 100% volunteer organization, from the guiding committee to the walk leaders who donate their time because of a shared passion for ecology and education.
Take a walking tour and learn how a group of people have been transforming a vacant industrial lot into a hub for urban sustainability.
Free, but an RSVP is required to info@wildoakland.org
This walking tour will cover the history of PLACE and their current efforts to bring urban permaculture, green infrastructure, community place-making and education into this North Oakland neighborhood.
Stops on the tour will include Spokeland, a non-profit bike shop, an urban millers solar kiln, an electric bicycle and bicycle food cart fabrication space, a community worm bin, portable landfill devices, a greenhouse, bees, a cob oven, a doghouse, and a vertical raingarden. You will also discuss the plantings, habitat efforts and how, so far, they have attracted three species of native amphibians to the site.
PLACE is an all volunteer run organization, so come and learn how to get involved, or just come and learn, or come and teach.
