Please Note: The specific ConVerge series is no longer taking place at the YBCA, but we encourage you to still come out to the Yerba Buena district every 3rd Thursday for special events at YBCA and neighboring museums.

The YBCA:ConVerge series is a free monthly public gathering featuring creative and generative social art practices.

Community and innovative multi- and inter-disciplinary arts practices come together in the YBCA’s Grand Lobby and Room for Big Ideas with art, live music and curated performances in an interactive, experimental format. Cocktails are available for purchase.

May ConVerge is an exploration of the way words, symbols, and information have an impact on culture. We invite you to a dedication of YBCA’s newest public art commission,Murmur Wall, and a live screening of Alexis Giedon’s stop motion animation opera, The Crumbling. which explores what Gideon explains as “the importance of word and symbol in a decaying culture…”

May Schedule

4-6:30 PM The Crumbling
Screening of a series of Czech animated puppet films followed by a live screening of Alexis Gideon’s The Crumbling and a Q&A with the artist.

5-6:30 PM Interactive Prototypes Show & Tell
Experts from Future Cities Lab will discuss and do a hands-on demonstration of the technologies, fabrication, and interaction design strategies they used to produce Murmur Walland Lightswarm.

6:30-7 PM Gallery Talk by Future Cities Lab
Jason Kelly Johnson, Nataly Gattegno, and collaborators at Future Cities Lab will discuss the concepts and details underlying their two installation art works installed at YBCA. Future Cities Lab is an experimental design studio, workshop and architectural think tank operating globally out of San Francisco, California.
