Free Museum & Gallery Crawl: Yerba Buena Third Thursdays | SoMa

Yerba Buena Third Thursdays is a monthly outing of art, performance, music, and drinks in the Yerba Buena neighborhood in the heart of downtown San Francisco, between 2nd and 5th Street, and Market and Harrison Street.

Free, but an RSVP is recommended to save time at check-in. Pre-register, and use your smart phone or printed ticket to get wristbands at participating art venues.

Yerba Buena neighborhood galleries, museums, restaurants, and bars will host an event every third Thursday of the month which will be an exciting chance to explore the Yerba Buena district.

Look for the yellow balloons for Third Thursday events, and be sure to pick up your wrist band at YBCA for special rates at participating bars and restaurants. All gallery and museum admissions will be free, except for the Contemporary Jewish Museum which will offer a special entry price of $5.

1 ) Cartoon Art Museum | 655 Mission @ 3rd

Various Exhibitions, 5 – 8 pm | FREE | From editorial cartoons to comic books, graphic novels to anime, Sunday funnies to Saturday morning cartoons, the Cartoon Art Museum has something for everyone.

2 ) Contemporary Jewish Museum | 736 Mission St @ Yerba Buena Lane

Larry Ochs – Dohee Lee, 6:30 – 7:15 pm | $5 after 5 pm | The CJM, in partnership with the Center for New Music, is pleased to offer four site-specific performances in conjunction with the new exhibition Work In Progress: Considering Utopia. Each performance features an improvising duo of one musician and one dancer. The performances will happen within the gallery and “activate” Ohad Meromi’s sculpture1967.

3 ) Museum of the African Diaspora | 685 Mission St @ 3rd

Film Screening: Free Angela and All Political Prisoners, 5–8 pm / 6:30 pm | FREE | Join us for our current exhibition, Crosscurrents: Africa & Black Diasporas in Dialogue, 1960-1980. The MoAD Salon is the scene for the launch of our film series, Cross-Cutting: Black Insurgency on Film. Free Angela and All Political Prisoners will be screening at 6:30 pm followed by a discussion with California Newsreel Director Cornelius Moore.

 

4 ) UC Berkeley Extension Art & Design Gallery | 95 3rd Street @ Mission

Opening Reception for Alexandra Bailliere Treadwell, 5 – 8 pm | FREE | Graduating student from the Post-Baccalaureate Certificate in Visual Arts at UC Berkeley Extension, Treadwell’s work both examines the inherited object as a symbol of history and utilizes it for a visceral/visual effect, using various inherited materials in her work: handkerchiefs, table linens, ceramics, mirrors, and other household items.

5 ) Yerba Buena Center for the Arts | 701 Mission St @ 3rd

YBCA:ConVerge: New Year’s Collaborative Works, 4 – 8 pm | FREE | Ringing in the New Year, YBCA’s public spaces will ignite in a fluid sculptural environment punctuated by sound, film, discussion, and more, with participating curators from cultural institutions around the Bay Area. Artists include Double Zero (Hannah Ireland and Annie Vought), Lisa Rybovich Crallé, Chris Duncan, Christopher Füllemann, Bailey Hikawa.

A ) B Restaurant and Bar | 720 Howard St above the gardens waterfall

Extended Happy Hour and $6 cocktails, 5–10 pm | Discounts with Wristband | B Restaurant and Bar is celebrating Third Thursday with extended happy hour throughout the entire evening for anyone with a Third Thursday wristband. A live DJ will be spinning throughout happy hour.

10% Discount for Third Thursday visitors, 5–8 pm | Discounts with Wristband | While the museum installs their next exhibit, visit the Ten Lions Bookstore and receive a 10% Discount on your purchase by showing your Third Thursday wristband. Proceeds support the California Historical Society’s public programs and library.
