Two young competition winners will be featured on the Oakland Symphony Youth Orchestra’s final concert of the season, Sunday, May 17, at 2 pm at the Valley Center for the Performing Arts at Holy Names University in Oakland, Music Director Michael Morgan and Principal Conductor Omid Zoufonoun have announced.

The Orchestra will perform the world premiere of Ascension by composer Preston Nowakowski, winner of its first annual composer competition. Cellist Alex Hunn, winner of the Oakland Symphony Youth Orchestra Concerto Competition will perform David Popper’s Hungarian Rhapsody for Cello and Orchestra, and Josef Suk’s Scherzo Fantastique, Op. 25, and Brahms’ First Symphony complete the program. The concert is free of charge and the Valley Center for the Performing Arts is located on the campus of Holy Names University, 3500 Mountain Blvd., in Oakland.
