SFAQ [Project] Space: Free & Thoughtful Arts Programming | Tenderloin

SFAQ [Project] Space is a social sculpture and miniature institution that will be open to the public for four months of free and thoughtful arts programming at 449 O’Farrell Street in the Tenderloin.

SFAQ [Project] Space will explore:
Net Neutrality • Design • Art History • Food • Feminism • Youth • California Cool • Commerce • Collecting • Video Art • Video Conservation • Video Archiving + Preservation • The MFA • Relational Aesthetics • The Art Market • Broadcast Media • American Gothic • Popular Culture • Theory • Art Practice • Reality TV

“California Cool”: Why is it that certain forms of composure, and lifestyle seem eminently more possible in the California sun, outside the shadows of a place like New York? This conversation asks how space and style inform each other, and how ‘California’ has come earn the love of so many artists and musicians. From lowrider culture to Ed Ruscha, beatnik HOWLs to hip hop freestyles, participants will work to tell the Golden State’s story through a diverse set of cultural practices and imaginaries.
