On the fifth day of the fifth month, Japan and China make a national holiday of celebrating children. San Francisco’s own Japantown hosts an annual celebration at the 2013 Kristi Yamaguchi’s Children’s Day Festival on May 4, 2013.

There will be entertainment, food and hands-on craft activities for children.

In 2012, the event featured a wide range of live traditional Japanese performances (taiko and dance), performances by local youth groups, a bouncy house, hands-on crafts and live mochi pounding. While we can’t guarantee the same program, expect a lot of great Japanese cultural activities on May 4, 2013.
