Each year, the Urban Youth Arts Festival sets up about a huge Community Painting Wall in Precita Park for artists of all ages to express themselves, along with music, free food and fun for the whole family.

20th Annual Urban Youth Arts Festival
Saturday, July 23, 2016 | Noon to 5 pm
Precita Park, Precita Ave. & Alabama St., SF
FREE

This is a special year for the festival, so come out to celebrate 20 amazing years and also the success in preserving the original studio at 348 Precita Ave.

2016 Happenings:

  • Come early to see United Rhythms perform their 2016 Carnaval choreography from 12-1 pm
  • $5 raffle with awesome prizes including bikes from SF Bike Coalition, art supplies from Macpherson Arts, and apparel from Animal Kingdom and Mingo
  • Food will be provided by San Francisco Food Not Bombs, YMCA, The Lumpia Shack, Trader Joe’s, Wing Wings, and Cole Hardware
  • Kids Station (Tempera painting, Gods Eye Crafts, and button making), Community Painting Wall, Black Book Battle & custom hats and bags made by artists

The Precita Eyes Mural Center puts on the event. Every year, 300 to 500 people show up and organizers think that it’s a good way to keep kids out of trouble–given the 200 cans of aerosol paint that are used to make art on the walls, instead of tags on public spaces.

Extra incentive: Typically the best art pieces are auctioned off each year with some being kept and shown throughout the year at galleries.
