Event Details

In a time when temperatures are reaching new heights and weather is increasingly erratic, we’re pressed to critically examine our climate change crisis. Beginning in spring 2015, Impact Hub Berkeley will examine issues and trends in global commodity markets, water scarcity, and the growing economic impact of natural disasters through a series of interactive events.

Our conversation begins with palm oil, the resource found in more than half of our consumer goods that is contributing to worldwide deforestation and reduced biodiversity (WWF). Technologists, activists, buyers and funders have the hard facts and there’s an overwhelming movement towards zero deforestation sourcing. And yet the question still arises: WHY are we so dependent on a single commodity? Join us for an in depth analysis of the palm oil issue with cross sector stakeholders. We’ll begin with clips from Showtime’s Years of Living Dangerously and hear from experts who are at the forefront of changing the global palm oil paradigm.

Moderator: China Brotsky, Director of Operations and Finance, SumofUs

Speakers: John W Roulac, Founder and CEO, Nutiva and Tanya Birch, Program Manager, Google Earth Outreach
