Touted as the new sound for San Francisco, Hot Flash Heat Wave sounds remarkably like a lot of other bands. Maybe that’s because they blend a menagerie of influences to produce a surprisingly fresh, soulful rock sound. They are equal parts garage rock and Beach Boys, Weezer and The Shins. I think there’s also a dash of Prince in there, if you look close enough.
Their new album is on its way soon, but until then you can catch them live. Which is the best way to experience a band anyway, right?
