Love Potion DIY Day: Elixirs, Heart Dissection & Mocktails | Oakland

Enjoy a Valentine’s-themed day of mad science including ghost heart dissection, plant propagation and grafting, homemade cosmetics and essential oils, mad science cocktails (non-alcoholic), and more from 11 am to 7 pm on Saturday, February 13, 2016.

Free, but an RSVP is requested.

Drop by throughout the day for any part of this free, full-day workshop with topics including:

• playing with ghost hearts
• plant propagation
• grafting
• homemade cosmetics (bath bombs, lotion, soaps)
• homemade essential oils (rose, etc)
• science of cocktails
• molecular gastronomy

Estimated times for each activity TBD. Please comment in the Meetup page on which activities you’re most interested in so they can get head count.

The Guerrilla Grafters will be on hand from 2-5 pm for grafting demos, moss graffiti, and to tinker with small electronics that secretly tell you about your guerrilla graft. Grafting tutorials will happen on the 1/2 hour mark during this time, and attendees can receive a small fruiting scion and tips for where to find more.

The Guerrilla Grafters graft fruit bearing branches onto non-fruit bearing, ornamental fruit trees. Over time, delicious, nutritious fruit is made available to urban residents through these grafts. They aim to prove that a culture of care can be cultivated from the ground up. They aim to turn city streets into food forests, and unravel civilization one branch at a time.
