OakCatVidFest 2013: Internet Cat Video Festival | Great Wall of OaklandJoin 5,000+ peeps in celebrating the low-art of Internet cat videos as The Great Wall of Oakland (yes, it’s 100 feet tall) hosts the Bay Area premiere of the Internet Cat Video Festival.

Live bands play cat-themed music, there’s a cat costume contest, local artisans selling arts and crafts (cat themed…duh), an aerial dance performance, and San Mateo’s own Dusty the Klepto Kitty in a rare special appearance.

Oh, and when the sun goes down, gather around The Great Wall to view the Bay Area premiere of #catvidfest – a curated collection of Internet cat videos. See your favorites: “Henri,” “Cats Playing Patty Cake,” and “Cat Says NOM NOM NOM.”

The Great Wall’s artist in residence group, Bandaloop, will perform a cat-themed aerial duet off the 100′ Wall before the screening.

Oakland Cat Video Festival Lineup

3 pm: DJ Hoodcat
The Cat Man of West Oakland (aka Adam Myatt), is an Oakland based musician, recording engineer, and cat-tographer. In the last year and a half or so, he has been documenting his neighborhood ‘Hoodcats,’ and in November 2012, ran (and successfully funded) a kickstarter for his “2013 Hoodcat Calendar.” Stop by the DJ booth to say hello, pick up some Hoodcats stickers, get special pricing on a 2014 Hoodcat Calendar pre-order, and sign up for the Hoodcats mailing list.

3:30 pm: Duckmandu
Accordion Quack-rock for the love of Cats. What? You must see to believe.

4 pm: Bandaloop
The Great Wall of Oakland’s artist in residence and internationally recognized aerial dance troupe, Bandaloop, will perform the first ever aerial kittycat duet off the 100′ Wall. It is one kittycat duet not to be missed.

4:30 pm: Subzero5
One Creative All Girl Band

5:15 pm: Caitlin Gil Comedy
Caitlin was a performer at the Outside Lands Festival in 2012, she has been in SF Sketchfest every year since 2007, performed in the Vancouver Global Comedy Fest, was host of the 2009 SF Women’s Comedy Competition and The Ladies Room Open Mic and Showcase.

6 pm: Cruel Summer
Alternative, dream pop, jangle post-punk shoegaze band based in San Francisco.

7:15 pm: Little Miss Hot Mess
Lil Miss’s aesthetic is rooted in thrift store couture and the tradition of camp that seeks to expose, question, and critique, honey. She first got her feet wet as an original cast member of Hogwarts Express: The Musical (Neville Longbottom), a queer recasting of the Harry Potter tales. She loves cats and loves singing songs from the musical, Cats.

7:30 pm: Costume Contest
Come dressed as a cat, Catwoman, a crazy cat person or anything kittycat related and strut your magical cat powers on the Cat Walk. Every contestant is a winner, but one lucky kittycat will receive a special treat.

7:45 pm: Dusty the Klepto Kitty
Keep hold of your stuff because Dusty, the Klepto Kitty will be on the premises. He has been know to take wallets, underpants, towels and other stuff from unsuspecting neighbors.

8 pm: Bandaloop
The Great Wall of Oakland’s artist in residence and internationally recognized aerial dance troupe, Bandaloop, will perform the first ever aerial kittycat duet off the 100′ Wall. It is one kittycat duet not to be missed.

8:30 pm: Bay Area Premeire of #catvidfest
The main attraction

Can you see the films for free?
Technically tickets are $10 for adults – which we think is an awesome price for this fest – and we’ve been told that the area is fenced off, so that if you’re not in the ticketed area, you won’t be able to see the films, but our guess is that if you want to be a freeloader, you should stand right outside the gates or across the street and you might be able to see the film (it’s on a giant wall, for goodness’ sake) though you may not be close and of course you’ll miss out on all the pre-film entertainment.

No guarantees of course. So bring $10, just in case.
