Event Details

Bring your friends and the fam to compete in a free Petanque Tournament in front of the Ferry Building on Sunday, September 13, 2015.

What is Petanque? Pétanque (French pronunciation: [petɑ̃k]; Occitan: petanca [peˈtaŋkɔ]) is a form of boules where the goal is to throw hollow metal balls as close as possible to a small wooden ball called a cochonnet (literally “piglet”) or jack, while standing inside a circle with both feet on the ground. Think of it as a version of the better known Italian game of Bocce.

The tournament is free and open to all children and adults, beginners or experts. If you have bowling balls bring them. If you do not have them, they’ll have some to lend you. At the end of the tournament, there will be a raffle among the participants.

The petanque courts are located in front of the Ferry Building in the southern part of the park Justin Herman Plaza in front Steuart Street. They have prepared a short video to find them easily. If you do not manage to find them, call 408.398.2231
