Pier 27 | Pier 27, San Francsico, CA
The San Francisco Symphony presents their annual free outdoor concert taking place at Pier 27 at noon on Sunday, July 12, 2015.
In 2015, Bryce Dessner, of acclaimed indie rock group The National, joins the San Francisco Symphony for a performance of his original orchestral work, St. Carolyn by the Sea.
This free waterside concert pairs one of Dessner’s most accomplished pieces, inspired by Jack Kerouac’s Big Sur, with another contemporary work drawn from the American landscape. Pulitzer Prize winner David Lang’s Mountain is a tribute to the iconic American composer Aaron Copland, inspired by a mountain view Lang enjoyed in Vermont one summer.
To accompany these striking contemporary works, the symphony will also perform Beethoven’s Symphony No. 1 and Stravinsky’s incandescent The Firebird Suite (1919 Revision).
