Event Details

Living Jazz invites you to celebrate unity and freedom in our 19th annual musical tribute honoring Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. – In the Name of Love.

Taking place MLK Weekend and days before the Presidential inauguration – this lineup is committed to delivering inspiration, reflection, and the hope we need to stand united as we enter 2021.

The stellar lineup features locally and internationally known artists, activists, and spoken word artists, coming together to inspire hope and to utilize the power of music as a positive agent for social change.

Living Jazz is dedicated to making this concert accessible to all by offering a “Pay What You Can” admission. All donations will benefit the Living Jazz Children’s Project , providing FREE music education for low-income (Title One) Oakland public elementary schools serving 400 children annually. Since 2006, Living Jazz has served over 5,000 2-3rd graders, and believes that access to music education is a profound and necessary component of every child’s education and development. During COVID-19, Living Jazz has provided LJCP classes virtually to provide joy, music, and support to students as they shelter in place.

We are honored to have Congresswoman Barbara Lee present the The Oakland Citizen Humanitarian Award to Dr. Noha Aboelata, Founder and CEO of Roots Clinic.

In the Name of Love is one of Oakland’s most important annual events, bringing our diverse community together to pay tribute to Dr. King’s message of community, equality and inclusion and to highlight the power and significance of music and music education.

With the 2020 tumultuous year behind us, we look forward to 2021 honoring the path that Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. set us upon, in search of freedom, equity, and peace.
