The San Francisco Dyke March is gathering of close to 200,000 lesbians, supportive women and (mostly) gay men intended to be a precursor to the wider LGBT Pride events but its own separate celebration. As folks gather to Dolores Park, there will be a world music DJ starting at 12:30, until 3 p.m. when the afternoon of live music, drag dancers and speakers is kicked off with an American Indian blessing. Despite the large crowd the SF Dyke March has been known as a well-run and peaceful event.
The Dyke March itself is a much more wide-open event than the SF Pride Parade is, letting supporters participate (often with handmade signs). It begins at 7 p.m. at Dolores Park and ends up in the Castro District. A word of warning: the march, as all SF Dyke events, are intended for lesbians and women so men are welcome to stand and support–from the sidelines.
