A week-long celebration of street dance featuring two special viewings of Embodiment Project’s newest production in progress, a performance showcase, a 5-day dance intensive with 20 classes, experimental battles, and a day party with ELEMENTS.

This year Embodiment Project celebrates our 5th Get Free Festival  in partnership with Dance Mission Theater, Destiny Arts Center, Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, and Yerba Buena Gardens Festival in the SF Bay Area. Join us for a FREE weeklong street dance festival offering 20 technique classes covering house dance and various styles, multidisciplinary performances with live musicians and poets, experimental battles, and a day party celebrating Black social dance and house music culture.

Featuring dance workshops taught by Toyin Sogunro, K’niin Abbrey, Rama Mahesh Hall, Nicole Klaymoon, Nakachi Clark-Kasimu, and more. Participants have the chance to showcase new works at the end of the week. Our Get Free Festival includes live performances by Embodiment Project, Coflo Ferreira, Valerie Troutt, Tiffany Austin, and more

Get Free is a space to express an artist’s personal story. We extend an invitation to shatter gender and race constructs and disrupt the commercial veneer a dancer’s body often experiences in both hip hop and concert dance landscapes. The mass outpouring of attendees at previous Get Free festivals showed us a need for street dance artists to express tender, autobiographical narratives of the body. Together, we work to transcribe autobiographical narratives with artists whose bodies have been disproportionately affected by the COVID-19 pandemic and systemic racism.
