May 11th, OAKLAND, CA– AYPAL is delighted to announce its 26th Annual May Arts Festival, scheduled to take place on May 11th (12-4pm) at Lincoln Square Park. This event is free and open to the community!
AYPAL holds this event to celebrate Asian American & Pacific Islander Heritage Month and encourage young people to connect with their cultural roots, strengthen intergenerational connections, heal, and reclaim our space in Oakland.
“AYPAL has been integral in API youth movement building in Oakland for the past 26 years. The May Arts Festival continues to be a place where youth can explore their cultures, highlight issues within the community, and celebrate our wins,” says AYPAL Co-Director Rhummanee Hang. This year’s festival will showcase a variety of cultural dances performed by AYPAL youth including: Lion Dance, Langka Kuntau-Silat, Vietnamese Fan Dance, Neary Chea Chou, Coconut Dance, and Hip Hop. We will also have guest performances from California Karen Youth Connection, East Bay Bokeo Dancers, Tall Tee, DJ Bitesize, and Lil Thowow. Additionally, there will be local organizations tabling and providing resources and information about their work.
