4th Annual “Bottle Yacht” Regatta in Golden Gate Park (SF)

Come join us for the 4th Annual Bruce Ettinger Bottle Yacht Regatta!

Come cheer on the bottle boats on Sunday, June 9 at 1:00 PM at the Bruce Ettinger Bottle Yacht Regatta hosted by the San Francisco Model Yacht Club on the North Shore of Spreckels Lake (Fulton and 36th Ave) in Golden Gate Park.

Watch as participants race their creatively designed bottle yachts across Spreckels Lake. Bottle boats are homemade model yachts– built from recycled bottles, donated sailing supplies, found objects, and low cost materials. Bottle boats are powered by the wind; races include freesail (self steering) and RC (radio control) bottle boats.

After the bottle race awards, there will be an opportunity for novices to “Learn to Sail” a RC model yacht with a mentor in small groups for a 15 minute session. Sign up for “Learn to Sail” begins at 1:00 PM on a first come, first served basis at the lakeside information table on the North Shore. RC sailing is recommended for people >10 years old. Youth must be accompanied by an adult.

Timing for the day’s events depends upon wind conditions. Please bring chairs, wear sun/wind protection, and join us for an afternoon of model yacht sailing fun!

This is a free event in the park, open to the public. Eventbrite tickets are not required, but tickets help us plan. One ticket per family/group.
