$5 Classic Movie Night | Paramount Theatre
Experience the great films of Hollywood’s Golden Era in one of America’s finest Art Deco movie palaces.
With over 3,000 seats and a meticulously-restored interior, the Paramount offers a true “Movie Palace” experience straight out of the 1930s – with period newsreels, cartoons, previews, live music from the Mighty Wurlitzer organ and the audience participation spinning wheel game of “Dec-O-Win.”
A crude gin-swilling riverboat captain (Humphrey Bogart) down on his luck in Africa is persuaded by a prim and proper missionary (Katherine Hepburn) to use his boat to attack a German warship.
The on-screen chemistry between Bogart and Hepburn is something to behold as their thorny relationship develops from initial revulsion, to grudging respect, to fondness and then, finally, into love. Katherine Hepburn picked up her fifth Best Actress Oscar nomination. John Huston picked up his third nomination for Best Director and shared the Best Screenplay nomination with James Agee.
